...they *are* the pilots. Silly headline.
/u/tcat6656
HE DONT WANT TO BE PILOT GRAPE!
/u/RogueBoy06
I WILL SACRIFICE MY LOVE FOR PILOT!
/u/ripyourlungsdave
Damn you for making me believe in a more magical world,
OP..
/u/BubbhaJebus
Yup. Both are fully certified pilots.
/u/PowderPills
Look babe, no pilot lol
/u/jaffacookie
Absolutely everything has become interaction bait now.
We just fell for it.
/u/kiran_ms
"Imagine a king who flies his own plane. Wouldn't that
be a sight."
/u/boticelli77
"Of all the pilots blessed by the airlines, I hate him
the most."
/u/kiran_ms
"I shall have you whipped for your flight delays."
/u/Hindrik1997
The king of the Netherlands flew commercial for KLM iirc
for years.
/u/Steaktartaar
Still does, but he's on hiatus while he gets certified
for KLM's new Airbus.

/u/RebelliousDutch
He got his type rating on june 6th, it was in the news
yesterday. He already completed his first official
revenue flight.

Dutch article, but with pics.

/u/Stormfly
If he doesn't, he loses his licence.
/u/TheGuyfromRiften
imagine telling a king "Oi you go' a loicense for that?"
/u/Stormfly
Unfortunately, in European countries they do have kings
but those kings are required to follow the law.
/u/Royal-Average2297
King of Belgium flew F-16s

This is not a one-up just helping illustrate your point
that it is not that uncommon.
/u/rintzscar
Prime minister of Bulgaria is a former fighter pilot who
flew MiG-29s and F-16s.
/u/01000010-01101001
I've been on one of his flights but didn't realise it
until afterwards. You know when the pilot and crew stand
by the exit when you come of the plane? As I was coming
down the isle I was thinking "Mmm our pilot has a
remarkable resemblance to the Dutch Crown Prince/King*".
Checked his name badge which said "van Buren" and didn't
really think about it until I read an article that he
flies KLM flights under that pseudonym.

*Can't remember exactly whether this was before or
after he became King.
/u/Infinite_Research_52
Not a bicycling monarchy
/u/Apart-Succotash-6872
"That's why everyone will remember his name"
/u/Apart-Succotash-6872
I understood that reference
/u/Lost-Transitions
King of the Netherlands has a job at KLM. If you fly
KLM, he might be your pilot. Yes, really.
/u/InitiativeGold7953
So why does he need that big ass plane to begin with if
he's flying it? For the original pilots? 😂
/u/Drio11
Plus its Bhutan airfield, one of, if not the most
dificult big airfields to take-off and land on (its in a
deep valey and plane needs to turn immediatly after take
off. Only few airlines and specific pilots in them were
deemed capable enough to land on it at least used to,
maybe it was improved)
/u/level22worldie
[r](u/unexpectedTroy)[/unexpectedTroy](u/unexpectedTroy)
/u/orbit99za
The king of the Netherlands also does this, he pilots
commercial flights with KLM, every now and then.
/u/crikke007
The king of Belgium is a certified F16 fighterjet pilot.
Flying seems like a popular hobby among monarchs
/u/Hresvelgr401_
I mean I can see why. If I could I'd own and fly a
fighter jet
/u/According-Pen-1983
He doesn't own it. He flies for the air force
/u/Hresvelgr401_
Well yeah, but I'm saying if I could I'd own a fighter
jet, there are some old fighter jets that are owned by
random people
/u/etcpt
I mean, being a monarchy, is it not technically his air
force?
/u/Dear_Chasey_La1n
I don't know about elsewhere but in the Netherlands it's
a fairly costly (but financially highly rewarding)
degree. Most degrees are pretty much for free over here,
except becoming a pilot, it can set you back nearly
200k.
/u/netr0pa
The crown princess of Sweden Victoria can also fly JAS
GRIPEN fighter jet!

https://youtu.be/grsyuTssyuA
/u/Golgen_boy
The Sultan of Brunei also flies his own planes( multiple
type rated) and also sometimes operate commercial
flights for Royal Brunei.
/u/OldDarthLefty
Is that why all his cars are so lonely
/u/Twio_For_Life
Yep can confirm this. We had him as a pilot (only found
that part out after landing) and he did a good job
/u/ken_NT
I was about to say, I wonder if they ever hang out.
/u/Positive_Actuary_282
For those who doesn't know, Bhutan is one of the
toughest airport to take off and land. Only highly
experienced pilots do it. The king is definitely an
extraordinary pilot to do this with such an ease
/u/ohjeaa
That's pretty awesome actually lol
/u/ChymChymX
Yeah very few pilots would even thai it
/u/GrassRadiant3474
And fewer pilots will THAI and LAND it.
/u/brokefixfux
Both of your comments are THAID for first place
/u/A_Very_Lonely_Waffle
Bhutan the other hand, your comment is second
/u/Stuffed_deffuts
Even fewer pilots fly THAI Fighters
/u/L_Cranston_Shadow
Even if it wasn't, you would have to say it was if you
are in or ever want to visit Thailand.
/u/ohjeaa
That's cool man. I don't give a fuck about the political
view on the dude. I'm not here for that. It's just
generally impressive he can fly his own plane from such
a hard airport, regardless of what their politics are.
/u/Orbit1883
and still i only am able to see him as his fromer self
wearing a spagetty shirt belly out tats

i know and hope people can change but he just had has
this brat energy when he was still prince
/u/octoreadit
More importantly, he's doing it himself instead of
asking some pilot to do it for him.
/u/Pink_Nyanko_Punch
I mean, he's a certified airliner pilot and a RTAF
fighter pilot. He can fly all the planes if he feels
like it.
/u/octoreadit
I'm talking about wearing that shirt with the belly
out...
/u/vinegar45
normal Beijing bikini
/u/Pink_Nyanko_Punch
Thank god you didn't see what else he did...
/u/TAU_equals_2PI
Yep, that's the picture everybody remembers the King of
Thailand from.

Sorry, he can take off as many planes at whatever
airports he wants. We're all still gonna remember him as
that photo.
/u/p-wing
Only a badass can do both
/u/AceOBlade
surprisingly not mentioned in the Epstein files. Also he
offers funding to restaurants if you make thai food, so
in my town there are a bunch of thai fusion restaurants.
/u/altpirate
Did he personally come up with that scheme? I though it
was just something the Thai government did in general as
a way to promote Thai culture abroad
/u/Orbit1883
Na as far as i know the Thai food thing is a different
one, even started way bevore he became King.

Him funding it is just funding
/u/Training_Molasses822
Where's that, in Bavaria?

Edit: FFS I hate new Reddit where you get downvoted for
a simple question, by idiots who probably don't even
know the Thai king has been residing in Bavaria for
decades.
/u/Orbit1883
Yes he was living in the alps for a long time

edit had or i bet still has a villa at the starnberger
lake, one if not the monst expensive region in germany.

he also had a bit of a scandal going on during covid,
already was crowned king, because he was living in a
luxury hotel in garmisch/the alps during locdowns
headlines like "Thai king self-isolates in a luxury
hotel with 20 women over COVID-19 fear "

you know not even a thai 5star hotel no not even on the
same continent! that's caring for your folks and leading
as an example.....
/u/ollolollorT
With what he was wearing I think he stopped caring what
people thought of him long ago.
/u/darmokVtS
As he has (or mabye does still, dunno) spent a lot of
time in southern Germany there's quite a few picfures of
him around as he liked to go on cycling tours in the
area. Like
https://images.bild.de/5d4c1366294eab00016bcf08/b98ba8b9
e24aa0f4cca95f5637042eb4,35bab5c9 where he seems to wear
either a speedo or his underpants on a break during one
of these bike trips.

Note his servants serving him while on their knees.
/u/Internal_Hour285
That's his son, the king in the video is whose photo
hangs on everyone's wall in Thailand (and is on the Thai
Bhat). Edit: never mind the crazy son is the one
flying,wow.
/u/Orbit1883
Yep Time flys, pun intended, the no good Prince became
King
/u/jcbubba
damn i thought this photo was from like yesterday- cant
believe it has been 10 yrs
/u/PossiblyAsian
It's so weird to see all the comments glazing him when
all the comments on reddit would have been making fun of
him back then.

Everyone was praising what a guy his father was and
what a degenerate spoiled prince he was
/u/inolyzushi
I went through a rabbit hole of Paro International
Airport landings a few years ago, and it's the one thing
I still think about every time I open YouTube.
/u/SnittingNexttoBorpo
I just found that rabbit hole the other day! The one
with the two women pilots, and one prays when they fly
over a Buddhist monastery, was pretty cool
/u/GintoSenju
The royal succession ritual involves not crashing a
plane into a mountain
/u/Soggy_Parking1353
It's because of the Thai principle of
'ไม่ตาย' which means 'Don't Die'
/u/livenn
In any other circumstance, this would be a horrible idea
/u/sm_rdm_guy
But why do they need such a big plane if they are in the
cockpit the whole time?
/u/shintemaster
Planet ain't gonna cook itself. Can't leave all the
heavy lifting to US, China, etc
/u/Safe-Elderberry3222
eheheheheheheh insert frog/lizard laughing meme
/u/rbartlejr
Gotta have some space for the mile high adventures. But,
yeah, I'm pretty sure the seats in the Lear fold down to
pretty comfortable beds.
/u/SnooRadishes9685
There's 2 pilots in the video
/u/LuffyHead99
What's the reason?🤔
/u/toshiino
Mountainous area, you basically have to weave through
mountains to reach that airport.
/u/mildpandemic
Holy shit did he land it too when they arrived? I've
been to Bhutan and they did a hard turn around a
mountain before lining up for the runway.
/u/XiMaoJingPing
is the king holding you hostage to push propaganda?
/u/sm_rdm_guy
I guess it helps that it's a fairly empty plane.
/u/GreyFox1921
I expect nothing less from a man who put his naked wife
on display at a birthday party and had her eat birthday
cake off the floor next to their dog who the king made
general of the Air Force
/u/KinkyDuck2924
When that wife left him, he put her parents in prison
for 2 years for 'royal defamation' and sent her into
exile just to be a vindictive dick. This guy is an
asshole.
/u/GreyFox1921
Oh I didn't know his wife left him. Thailand has crazy
defamation laws though. I've read people getting fine in
arrested for leaving bad reviews
/u/Top_Librarian6440
That's different than the specific laws forbidding
criticism writ large of the royal family. Basically any
statement that could be construed as criticism of the
monarchy, or the monarchs, can land you a multiple year
long prison sentence.
/u/Skateboard_Raptor
Famously you are not allowed to step on money, because
it carries the face of the king.

Ironically the biggest act of rebellion I saw during my
time there, was people not standing up for the Royal
Anthem in the cinemas. And even that is only because you
get to do it in the dark.
/u/RarelyReadReplies
I am glad there's at least one top comment chain that
isn't glazing this guy. Reddit really is a dream
scenario for propaganda machines nowadays.
/u/DarthJarJarJar
Always has been. Just look back at the PETA thing, how
long ago was that?
/u/cndn-hoya
As a matter of precaution, if you ever visit Thailand,
please ensure you delete this comment for your own
safety. But if you never plan to visit, you're good.
/u/GreyFox1921
I visited multiple times and I don't need to delete
anything for my own safety.

Thanks for making a dumb post though
/u/SamIamGreenEggsNoHam
I can get behind the dog idea, at least.
/u/f8tel
Woah, the details and fall out are even crazier.
/u/GreyFox1921
You should have seen how he showed up after his dad
died.

Him and his wife were off on holiday when his dad's
King died. he had to come back suddenly
/u/Orbit1883
Also as a Prince living in another country, Germany near
Garmisch, most of the time dooing drugs booze and Partys

Sure he is/was caring about the Country and his people
and not just beeing a prick../s
/u/Specific_Frame8537
The same king of Thailand who sued Facebook to keep
photos like this of him in a crop top off the internet?

Then what's the king doing?
/u/YodaZo
If only he was a good person.

He was on holiday when his dad died.
His wife were order to eat the birthday cake off the
floor next to the dog.
Expelled his own son for having an different mindset.
Jail anyone who dare to criticized him, Some even get
put in jail without any evidence whatsover.
Take in a lot of wife with and without their consent.

But somehow people still blindly defending him.
/u/chancesarent
I remember this dude running off and renting out a Swiss
resort with twenty comfort women during COVID. He also
sentences any citizens to up to 15 years in prison for
having the picture of him in the crop top. Fuck this guy
and fuck this Reddit image whitewashing.
/u/panmetronariston
Is this the guy who spends most of his time in Germany
or was that his father?
/u/IlliteratePig
It's this one, an old Thai classmate of mine remembers
seeing him on Starnberg every now and then while growing
up in the area and being super disappointed
/u/Fuuujioka
Literally never seen anyone defend him. His dad, yeah,
he was loved
